Exploring Bucharest

Sometimes I get the time to explore Bucharest. Today I've been around the station (Gara de Nord that is), on streets I've never been before. I was lucky to find some exciting places. Hotel Cerna is right by the station - please notice the 1 star detail. The bird cage is actually a surveillance camera and the CocaCola sign is genuine glocal culture. I love this town.

Cow Parade is nearly finished...

... but I get the chance to paint one. This is Aurica, my cow. So after the twon was occupied by ugly cows (as selected by the sponsors) finally the organizers called some people who they would have liked to have as artists. Three weeks to go until the cows go on auction and Aurica will proudly show her gold bits and pieces to the world. :)

Heroes Monument

Bucharest shop windows

As I'm not going anywhere this summer I'm enjoying Bucharest... Here are two shop windows which are simply beautiful. One is a post office and the other one of course a pastry shop. Which year are we in again?

Between new signs of chain pharmacies and exchange offices, this beautiful 15 escaped the 'modernization' and stands out proud since a time when 'modern' had a different meaning.

Cool Ploiesti

These are all from Ploiesti. I was there in a family day trip this afternoon (only 40 minutes by train). I guess we just did it to change the air a little. I can say I simply loved it. I must go there more often. Besides these retro bits'n bobs Ploiesti has lots of lovely terraces, nice eclectic arhitecture and it's only round the corner from Bucharest.
